Second edition of “Concerts at the Garden of Minerva“, entitled “Element symphony“: four thematic concerts dedicated to Air, Fire, Earth, Water.
Monday 20 July: The Fire
The second evening will be dedicated to the “Fire ritual“, with two international virtuosos: the violinist Paoline Klaus and the guitarist Thierry Mercer. The opening track will be the Duo in King Major (also known as Sonata in King Major) by the German composer Christian Gottlieb Scheidler, a brilliant galant movement characterized by a operatic Romanza and a lively Rondò. It will then continue with Niccolò Paganini through the Sonata concertante in La Maggiore (MS 112, Op. 61), which interweaves technical skills and refined chamber music giving the guitar a role of continuous dialogue with the violin, and the famous Cantabile in King Major (MS 109, Op. 17), whose expressive melodic line recalls the lyricism of the Italian opera.
At the center of the evening there will be the first work on commission: “La Danza del Fuoco” by Alessandro Cozzolino. From here will start a journey between characteristic dances, starting with Pièce en forme de habanera by Maurice Ravel (1907), marked by the syncopathetic rhythm of the guitar and a sensual melody of the violin with a Andalusian taste. Following the entr’acte by Jacques Ibert (1935), brilliant style and strongly influenced by the Spanish atmospheres, filled with witty and lightness. Space then two gems of Iberian romanticism: Romanza Andaluza (Op. 22) by Pablo de Sarasate and the Española Dance n. 5 – Andaluza by Enrique Granados.
The concert will close with Béla Bartók: five duets will be proposed from the 44 Duetti for two violins on traditional melodies of Eastern Europe and the famous Romanian folk dances, a 1915 suite based on seven original melodies of Transylvania that Bartók himself recorded on the field using the first wax roller phonographs.
