A country boy is a fun comedy that Peppino De Filippo sets in a small rural country. The plot revolves around Giorgio Paternò’s machine, an indolent man and nothing tenant.

Married with Margherita, a former dancer of variety known abroad and accustomed to living behind the mite half-brother Pasqualino, Giorgio designed a plan to enrich himself: to combine the marriage of Pasqualino with Lucia, daughter of the wealthy Don Gennaro, notable of the country. In exchange for his “good offices” (which include the removal of Lucia’s previous boyfriend), Giorgio expects a laut reward.

The story, woven with intrigues and comedy, accelerates when true feelings and social forces collide: Lucia is forced to a marriage of convenience but on the wedding night her ex-boyfriend returns to reclaim her with force. Giorgio’s plan collapses miserably, leaving all the characters – especially the innocent Pasqualino – dry mouth, in a suspension between fun and reflection.
