The Gospel as a Word that transforms: the Archdiocese of Salerno presents the X edition of “Giornate Matteane”

Salerno is preparing to welcome the X edition of the “Giornate Matteane”, the prestigious cycle of conferences promoted by the Archdiocese of Salerno-Campagna-Acerno and edited by the Diocesan Office for Culture and Art.
The event, inserted in the frame of solemn celebrations for the Patron Saint of Salerno, the Apostle Matthew, cuts this year the important milestone of the ten years of activity, confirming since 2017 its vocation of meeting space and reflection that unites biblical, theologians, historians, art critics and social professionals around the Gospel text.

“This year the theme of the Days leads us to resume Jesus’ speeches concerning the end and end of history, also laying light on the value of the present journey. So a theme of mutual interest“, observed the Archbishop of Salerno-Campagna-Acerno, H.E. Monsignor Andrea Bellandi.
The meetings, morally sponsored by the Municipality of Salerno, will be held on days of thursday 17 september and friday 18 september, with start fixed for both appointments at hours 18.00, in the suggestive Church of Saint Augustine, located in the heart of the historic city center.
The central theme of this special edition focuses on the final speech of Jesus through two evenings of in-depth study “What time is the end of the world?” — Message and topicality of Jesus final speech in Matthew 24-25. At the table of the speakers, four authoritative academics of the theological and national cultural panorama.

Work will open thursday 17 september at 18.00, therefore, with the contributions of the Biblist Antonio Landi of the Pontifical Urbaniana University and of the theologian Emanuele Spanish of the Higher Institute of Religious Sciences of Foggia.
The final session friday 18 september, in program always at the same time, will see instead the interventions of the Biblist Annalisa Guide of the Pontifical Theological Faculty of Southern Italy of Naples and Giorgio Agnisola, a well-known art critic, essayist and conductor of the High Education School in Art and Theology.

The appointments in the calendar will be presided by the Archbishop of Salerno-Campagna-Acerno, H.E. Monsignor Andrea Bellandi and moderated by Professor Lorella Parente, Director of the Pastoral Office Culture and Art, as well as historical organizer of the event, who wanted to underline the deep value of the initiative for the entire local community.

“St. Matthew gave us his inheritance: the Gospel that bears his name. To find us every year, at the threshold of the patronal solemnity, around this Word is an act of authentic devotion, which does not exhaust itself in the days of the feast, but becomes a journey carried forward together– he observed Professor Parente –The Apostle of the Salernitans is demanding: he asks that his message be welcomed and kept inside, translated into daily choices, lived in fraternal, concrete charity. For ten years Matteane Days have been trying to spread this awareness: the bond with our Patron is not only a matter of tradition or territorial belonging, but it is our faith. It is belonging to Jesus Christ, it is Word that transforms and saves“, he concluded.

Appointment, therefore, on 17 and 18 September, at 18.00, at Church of Saint Augustine of Salerno.
