Government Building

The Government Palace represents the stylistic evolution of the architecture of the fascist era, now far from the classical period and oriented to more linear and modern solutions.

Extended description

The Palazzo di Governo (or the Littorio) rises in an area affected by an important expansion, within the vast program of urban interventions realized in the early decades of the twentieth century.

Architectural work of fascist style, unlike City Palace still linked to the architectural balances of classical taste, the Government Palace obeys a more modern and linear style, characterized by scarce and essential lines.

Lasted in 1941, the building had a long portico and a fine ceramic statue of the artist Renato Rossi, depicting the Dream of Bellerofonte.

In 1943, during the Allied landing, it suffered considerable damage; it was then renovated in the Fifties, becoming the seat of the Prefecture of Salerno.
