The Fondazione Schola Medica Salernitana, Salerno Solidale, Salerno Classica, with the patronage of the Municipality of Salerno, the support of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Campania Region, in collaboration with the Gardens of the Minerva, the artistic direction of Costantino Catena, present the Concerto all’Alba, scheduled for Wednesday 12 August, at 5 pm, guest of the Quadriportico of Santa Maria delle Grazie, in Largo Luciani.

It will be the flute of Giuseppe Nese to lead the present from the Night to the Risveglio, through two very beloved pages of Antonio Vivaldi, La Notte and the Gardellino, supported by the Orchestra d’archi Salerno Classica, directed by Francesco D’Arcangelo.

The dawn wait will begin on the notes of the Concerto for flute, strings and continuous bass, “La Notte” by Antonio Vivaldi, in Sol minor RV 439 one of the most evocative masterpieces of the Red Priest. Originally published in 1728 in Amsterdam as part of Opera 10 second of the collection, this work is a perfect example of program music, in which melody describes a narrative or a series of atmospheres. Unlike the classic nursery structure in three movements, this concert is divided into six short and contrasting movements, designed to evoke the different stages of sleep, nightmares and night rest.

It opens a dark and mysterious introduction largo that evokes the beginning of the night. The ghosts come, an early, agitated and virtuous movement that represents night visions and ghosts, therefore, still a short calm but tense transition, before another quick and restless fragment. And here’s Sleep, the expressive heart of the concert, a splendid Largo, in which the arches play smoothly and create a suspended and hypnotic atmosphere, describing deep sleep.

So The awakening or the end of nightmares, characterized by a brilliant and liberating rhythm.

He will follow the Serenata for arches in mi minor Op. 20 by Edward Elgar, a short composition in three movements, which originates from a suite written by Elgar in 1888; one of the most appreciated works by his author, and one of his most often performed compositions. Completed in the spring of 1892, it is dedicated to Reverend Walter H. Whinfield, director of an organ building company and vice president of the Worcester Musical Society.

The first movement, Allegro pleasant, opens with a theme that recalls a melody of the West-Country, probably heard by Elgar in youth; it follows a second reason, equally balanced and serene.

Also the second time, Larghetto, does not present conflicting themes; it is a time of pacata meditation based on the continuous evolution of melody.

The third movement, “Allegretto”, proposes a clear and striking theme derived from the reworking of the initial reason for opening. They awaken with the first lights the birds and here is “Il Gardellino” concert op.6 n°3 in King Major of Antonio Vivaldi.

The concert follows the classic nursery structure in three movements: the Allegro, with the flute that launches in rapid virtuosity and trills that faithfully reproduce the twittering and the light flight of the cardellino, the Cantabile, a slow and dreamy time in which the flute stretches a bucolic melody over an essential accompaniment of the arches and the ultimate lively and dancing Allegro that concludes the work.
