Things of madness – Stories of lives then recluse

It shows things crazy. Memories of vine then recluse aims to enhance the cultural heritage of the former consortium “Vittorio Emanuele II” of Nocera Inferiore. The opening of an out-of-use closet has allowed to find a thousand different envelopes, belonging to the office called “Fagotteria”, the acceptance office where they were collected, filed and kept the personal effects of the patients at their entrance, marking with this rite the net detachment from the free life and the beginning of the internment.

What these envelopes tell! They talk about despair and decoration, humility and work, affection and abandonment. Faded portraits, sacred images, work tools left in the pocket of a worker, along with watches, rings and earrings, often poor “toppines” of false gold; objects that open – together with the registers and the clinical records – spiragli on the events that had lived the patients before the shelter, but above all tell us about the places of origin and the time they crossed
