A fundamental element in the productions of the Salento Lyric
The history of choral vocality in Salerno was born in 1997. In that year, in fact, on the occasion of the important production ofFalstaff,played by Rolando Panerai, who inaugurated after restoration work the reopening of the Municipal Theatre “Giuseppe Verdi”, made his debut on stageChoir of the Opera.
Since then the choir has become a fundamental part of the productions of the Salento opera, a real element of habitual reference for the life of the Theatre, an artistic-musical reality that regularly contributes to the prestige of the opera seasons symphonic. In years of activity he managed to propose many aspects of his musical creativity. Next to the Philharmonic, with which it is in constant synergistic collaboration, the choir has assumed an eclectic physiognomy. Its vast repertoire in fact spreads along four centuries of history of opera, as well as includes operettas, oratorios and sacred compositions. The artistic experience of the complex, consisting largely of young people from Salerno and Campania mostly trained toConservatory of Music “G. Martucci” of Salerno, it has also developed with the indispensable contribution of the choir directors who from its constitution to today have operated under the banner of a gradual and constant process of qualitative refinement.
Today the choir is a fundamental presence in productions ranging from Mass from Verdi’s Requiem to La Traviata, from Nabucco to Cavalleria Rusticana, from Tosca to Norma, from Bohème to Carmen, to Carmina Burana and Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony. In September 2013 he toured China in Guangzhou (Guangzhou) for the performance of La Traviata in a production of the Covent Garden in London. During the 2014 season, the Chorus performed in Korea with La Traviata and China with Carmen. The Choir during the event “Asummer from RE” participated in the production of Nabucco with the Choir of the Theatre of San Carlo and, in 2017, at the Concert The 60 Years of Music tour directed by Ennio Morricone and the Cori shows by Opera and Carmina Burana.
