Ports

Two ports, a commercial/tourist, a yacht, characterize the city of Salerno to the two sides of the Lungomare Trieste. Marina d’Arechi, in the stadium area, is a new important space for yachting.

Extended description

Salerno is equipped with two historical harbour areasplaced on the sides of the Lungomare Trieste, with the newport ofport south towards the coast of Paestum.

The commercial porthas arisen and developed in one of the oldest areas of the city, the homonymousRione Porto, chosen from the beginning as a settlement area just for the proximity to the sea. Its roots date back toRoman ageand longobard, but the plant that determines the modern configuration is realized in the thirteenth century by the Swabian kingManfredi, which promotes its restructuring and enlargement to compete with the port of Naples. The construction of the currentMolo ManfrediOn the other hand, Charles III of Bourbon, who in 1752 built a wall and a new dock, starting a process of growth that will lead to the current structure articulated in three piers. Today the port also has a marked vocationtourist tourist tourist tourist tourism, host theMaritime Stationand is included in the wider architectural project ofSea front.

The portMasuccio Salernitanois dedicated to yachting and has beyond500 boat tripsfor small and medium sized boats. From here thesea routesthat connect Salerno to the ports of the Amalfi Coast, Cilento and the islands of the Gulf. Inside the port is the section of the SalentoItalian Naval Leagueand, behind it, Piazza della Concordia concludes spectacularly the Lungomare Trieste.

To complete the harbour system citizen is theMarina d’Arechi, new tourist port located near the Arechi Stadium and conceived as a large space for the medium-large diporto. It is an infrastructureavant-garde, at the centre of a wider urban redevelopment project in the southern area of Salerno towards the coast of Paestum, which offers approximately1,000 boat seatsand is today one of the major tourist ports of the Mediterranean.
