A church famous among the Salento asChurch of the Morticelli, also because of the decoration withskeletons in front, decoration of clear counterreformistic inspiration. The church is one of the few late Renaissance examples in the city withcentral plantsurmounted by adome.
Built in memory of the end of apestilencethat struck Salerno, has undergone many variations that have not modified the octagonal system of the church, which has made to think of a preexistence of a baptistery.
Theentrance portal, of 16th century plant is the most significant element of the building.
In 1615 it became the seat ofBrotherhood of Monte dei Morti, dedicated to prayers for the souls of Purgatory.
Today in church hosts the SSMOLL space (San Sebastiano del Monte dei Morti Living Lab), a creative workshop dedicated to the city of Salerno and managed by the collectiveBLAM, and is open to the public at cultural events.
