Mosaic – Enrica Borghi – 2007

The designs of the Cathedral ideally leave the stone and overlook the streets, transformed into mosaics of light. Enrica Borghi resumes the motifs of the floors and the facade of the Cathedral and recomposes them in colored panels that invite you to look up. To form these new tiles are plastic bottles, cut and shaped: familiar objects in which it becomes possible to recognize an unexpected beauty. The memory of the city thus meets daily life. In the dark, the luminous geometries accompany the passage and return a fragment of the Salento architecture to the curiosity of those who walk.

Technical characteristics

The installation includes 70 square panels, 150 cm per side and 12 cm deep. Aluminum frames support elements made from colored plastic bottles, cut and shaped, illuminated with low consumption LEDs.
